A skit based on the scene from the Monty Python movie "The Life of Brian" "What Have the Romans Ever Done for Us". Class mates in our ASL Ii course participated in this. Many thanks to everyone's participation. My apologies for how dim the lighting, and the video camera going in and out of focus. Anyhow, this is a humorous bit, hopefully you enjoy. This would have been around Fall quarter 2006. Oh, and btw, many of the inconsistencies of set item placement and people placement, were intentional, see how many you can spot. :-) File type: MOV (video/mpeg) Height: 360 pixels Width: 480 pixels

This is a font for most computers that has ASL hand signs for letters and numbers (as you see for the logo to the Spokane ASL website for example). You simply download this True Type font, and add it to your system (or user profile) font configuration, and then you can use a word processor or image editing programming (that allows text) to type up these hand signs. Enjoy!

Understanding the Needs of the Victims of Sexual Assault in the Deaf Community A Needs Assessment and Audit

Abstract Research has just begun to explore sexual violence in culturally diverse communities. Understanding the impact of sexual violence in culturally Deaf communities is often overlooked and considered an undeveloped area of inquiry. Such research calls for exploratory approaches using qualitative methods and cultural competency when conducting the research activities. Hearing culture tends to define Deafness as a disability and as such, research has focused on studying disability populations as a whole without acknowledging the unique character of cultural Deafness. This paradigm may contribute to some of the isolation issues faced by the Deaf community.
