About Spokane ASL
This site, was originally created to help those who are learning, practicing, and/or using ASL (American Sign Language). It has expanded to become a resource for everyone in the signing, Deaf, and Hard of Hearing community for schedules of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual events and gatherings in the greater Inland Nortwest near and around the greater Spokane Area, Post Falls, Couer d'Alene, Cheney, and beyond. You will find resources for meeting schedules and locations, online web forum, email announcement and discussion lists, downloads, links, live chatrooms and other resources.
This site has been running since October 2006. We have weekly study group meetings, and monthly "social" gatherings all over the Inland Northwest.
This site was setup by Hawke to help everyone in the community have a centralized local resource.
Check the Events Section & Calendar for weekly meeting schedules and other related events. You can also synchronize the events calendar with your own calendar using the iCal/vCal features.
Also check the News section for ASL and Deaf related news, you can subscribe to the RSS feed to get the latest updates.
Registered users can also submit events, news, discussions, links, and other contributions to the site to help out the entire community.
The Spokane ASL Weekly Study Group is open to all levels of signing.
In the first hour we begin with basics such as finger spelling and basic signs, then build into more advanced vocabulary and grammar rules.
During the second hour we converse in more and more involved sentences, tell stories, and finally wrap up with a 30+ minute "social" time conversing freely in ASL.
Everyone is welcome to join in at any time.
Please join the email list to get notification of other events, and any cancellations. You can subscribe by sending a blank email to: list-subscribe@spokaneasl.com (and reply to the confirmation email, be sure to check your spam folder, and sorry, this list doesn't work with any Microsoft-based email like hotmail.com, live.com, bing, etc. so please use an email provider that is not Microsoft based).
There is also a PDF study guide available for download to help facilitate sessions, that anyone can use. You can find that in the archives section of the site.
I hope you find this site useful.
Happy Signing!
-Hawke
